Claim Industrial Surfaces Act One: Asiat Depave
Green With Grey International Summer School
Project Location: Asiat Site, Vilvoorde, Brussels, Belgium
Project Year: 31 August - 08 September 2019
Design Team: Gill Lauvyck, Lisa Debeer, Merve Özgür, Sigrid Vangeneugden, Vincent Van Praet
Organisors: Lattitude Platform, KU Leuven, UC Louvain
During the initial stage of the Green with Gray project, funded by the Flemish Government, a summer school was held to explore depaving strategies with productive solutions in Vilvoorde's industrial production area. With a focus on manufacturing structures, our team delved into the adaptation timelines of environmental stakeholders and devised strategies for fostering reconciliation among them. To address depaving challenges for both buildings and plots, we proposed process designs aligned with the required adaptation periods.

Productive Re-Connection aims to integrate the industrial site with its surrounding environment. Despite the diverse range of products manufactured, three distinct types of manufacturing companies are identified within the Maalbeek catchment area. Each type employs unique strategies to establish connections with its surroundings, tailored to maximize benefits for all involved agents. The various phases of the redevelopment illustrate how the plot will evolve concerning its agents (occupants) and environment.
